IN A NUTSHELL
  • 🚀 Gravitics is developing an innovative orbital aircraft carrier for the U.S. Space Force to enhance satellite deployment.
  • 🔒 The carrier offers protection for satellites against the harsh space environment, safeguarding sensitive components.
  • 🛰️ This project reflects the U.S. strategy to strengthen its military presence in space amid a potential arms race.
  • 🤝 Public-private partnerships, like the one with Axiom Space, are crucial for ensuring technological superiority.

The race for space superiority is heating up as the United States Space Force embarks on a groundbreaking project that could reshape the future of satellite deployment. At the heart of this initiative is the creation of an orbital aircraft carrier, a concept spearheaded by the innovative aerospace startup Gravitics. This ambitious project underscores the critical importance of space as a strategic domain and highlights the growing role of private enterprises in national defense efforts. As tensions mount on the international stage, the United States is making a bold statement by investing in technologies that aim to secure its dominance in space.

The Orbital Aircraft Carrier: A Strategic Innovation

Gravitics has secured an impressive $60 million contract from the U.S. Space Force to develop an orbital aircraft carrier. This revolutionary platform is designed to launch satellites directly from Earth’s orbit, providing a faster and more efficient response to national security threats. By bypassing traditional rocket launches, the orbital carrier enhances the military’s operational agility in space.

This initiative reveals the growing interest of the U.S. military in enhancing its orbital presence, especially as the specter of a “space arms race” looms. The concept is to have a pre-positioned platform in space that can swiftly deploy satellites based on strategic needs. This innovation not only addresses current security challenges but also positions the United States as a leader in space technology.

The Quest for Space Superiority

According to Gravitics officials, the orbital aircraft carrier will offer an unpressurized environment to house one or more satellites. These satellites can be launched as needed, while being shielded from the hostile space environment, thus protecting their batteries and sensitive electronic components. This ability to isolate and protect is vital in an era where electronic warfare and cyber threats are pervasive.

Furthermore, the orbital carrier may help conceal satellites from adversaries, adding another dimension to the strategy of space superiority. As Colin Doughan, CEO of Gravitics, stated, “the orbital aircraft carrier is a game-changer, acting as a pre-positioned launch platform in space.” This aligns perfectly with the Space Force’s mission to maintain a dominant position in orbit.

Implications for the Space Industry

In addition to developing this orbital carrier, Gravitics is collaborating with Axiom Space on a pressurized space module. This diversification into national defense highlights the company’s growth trajectory while continuing to offer commercial solutions. Gravitics’s vision for space superiority aligns with the Department of Defense’s needs, paving the way for new market opportunities.

This evolution underscores the increasing importance of public-private partnerships in the space sector. By integrating innovative technologies, Gravitics and other private entities bolster the United States’ space position while driving the development of novel technologies that could have civilian applications.

Toward a New Space Era

With technologies like the orbital aircraft carrier emerging, we are witnessing the dawn of a new era in space exploration and exploitation. This technological leap could redefine security, surveillance, and communication paradigms. The implications are vast, potentially transforming not only military operations in space but also the role of private companies in this dynamic.

As the Space Force and companies like Gravitics prepare for future challenges, it is crucial to ponder the future of international space cooperation. How will these innovations shape relations between nations? More importantly, how can we ensure that space remains a domain of shared peace and progress?

      • Its already up there. They need enslaved population too do what they really want, aggressively attack other planets. This is the Empire and its NOT good.

        • There is no way that this is going to be able to happen moreover, they have to retrofit all of the aircraft to be able to withstand re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere. Plus, if I’m not mistaken, there was a treaty that was signed. That said, we will not weaponize a space or that no one owns space

          • Do you really think they care about that treaty. Who ever runs space runs earth just imagine how much power yo will have in outer space being able to drop a Lazer or bomb to anywhere on earth with no hesitation

        • I thought the same thing until I read that it’s just a place to store satellites and launch them but the thought of it being flat like a aircraft carrier I questioned since when would you know which side is up because out there any side is up so the platform wouldn’t need to be big u wouldn’t thing

        • Ho-lee crap….. What an absolute load of editorial horseflop. “Orbital Aircraft Carrier” … REALLY? Has ANYONE at this, supposed,.”news” organization even gone to school? Even grade school?
…and the”artists” depiction of an actual wet water NAVY vessel friggin AIRCRAFT CARRIER!
No bloody wonder the world is so fucked up when even journalists are as illiterate and incapable as a not very bright four year old…….

This is a joke, right? It’s not going to happen, not when the best NASA can do to transport humans is an RV-sized Apollo capsule. trump has killed the economy so badly it’s going to cost *trillions* to build with technology we don’t have and can’t afford. Right now the Chinese have a better chance of building one and actually getting it I to space.

You’re out of touch with space related events Manuel. It’s not just Nasa, putting people into space! You have Space X; Deep Blue; the ESP and other PRIVATE space related companies. President Trump, along with Elon, is going to get us there, this is JUST the beginning!!

What a joke! The idea that a space based carrier would resemble an ocean going carrier is ludicrous. Come on. Even a preliminary sketch would be better than this. It’s wrong on so many levels

      • Actually it won’t be called an aircraft carrier in Space, that would be silly…They’re calling it a Battlestar.
After all Space Force has already stolen the Uniforms from BSG why nit tge actual name of the show too! 🤣

      • Bonnie Harrell on

Lol I thought there were already aircraft carriers in orbit…remember the guy that hacked the Pentagon’s computers and said he found evidence of terrestrial officers and ships belonging to the us? So that tells me we already have military in orbit

    • We can’t even put a toy lander on the moon without it falling over…how are we going to put thousands of tonnage into orbit?

    • Why do the writers for this newsletter often use sensationalized metaphors? It makes me wonder about the credibility of the stories.

    • Are the readers really this stupid? The picture is for understanding only. The supposed carrier will not look anything like an ocean dwelling carrier. Space Force is a real branch of the military. Plans are top secret so morons can speculate and imagine something that is not comparable to what is being built. It will be a huge advancement in technology with a unpressurized model controlled by AI and a pressurized one on the drawing board. They will not resemble an oceanic carrier in any form. The term is the only resemblance to reality. The USA still has some of the brightest minds when it comes to devious brilliance, so just amuse yourselves with your imagination and let the engineers and scientists do the work to protect you idiots.

      • we can tell how few people read the article, and how odd editing can mislead. It’s just a pre-launch platform. No people, no air, not even very big. Just enough to enclose a few spare satellites. Think of it, we can launch platforms with 3 or more large re-entry vehicles (MIRVs on a minute man, for example). Instead of planning to re-enter, just launch and leave, and replace the MIRVs with replacement satellites. Technology is not difficult at all, and it makes sense for redundancy, speed, and stealth (in the mind of opponents don’t know what’s up there).

    • The graphics are even worse. Looks like they copy pasted the USS Truman. Needs a prefab system and construction bay. Im thinkin cobalt black and illuminescent indigo purple.

    • I served on the USS Forrestal. Who’s going to take out the trash just from the operation of the ship? We would have to build space garbage barges to haul it back to earth. And what would it be named?

So a ship in orbit that can dispense a bunch of satellites into orbit. That’s called Space X ‘s Srarship with its Pez dispenser. And yes the US military has asked to get one when the Technology is perfected. Having another company develop a military grade pez dispenser is highly probable as Space X wishes to keep the Star link system completely non military in nature ì

      • Why haul it back to earth and pollute it more vs just jetison it in space on a course for the sun and burn it up?

    • Dr J Monkenstein on

And china is “shocked and panicked “ as the US develops war monkeys in a lab that have laser guns for arms. These monkeys will be stationed on a nuclear base on a moon of Jupiter. Astonishingly stupid. The image connected to this story looks like a traditional ocean fairing aircraft carrier, but in space. And the description below it reads: “Illustration of an orbital aircraft carrier concept developed for the U.S. Space Force to enhance satellite deployment.” This is a lie. There is absolutely no reason a spacecraft would be designed like this.

    • haha. Yeah. A space. Craft shaped like a water cruising aircraft carrier.. maybe the designed at Gravitic should check out the space craft in Star Trek….. just a thought……..

      • As usual, you put China or Russia in the article title – then not a word about them in the article. Clickbait.

    • No one of course. Was will have space dozers that will push everything into a space junk pile just like on earth. That way we can screw up space too .

  1. I remember when Ronald Regan talked about there already being spacecraft capple of holding 300 people already orbiting Earth.

    • Not to far fetched.
With 3-D printing , AI and robotics , it makes sense to build while in orbit. Use the majority of natural resources that are available on the moon to achieve this vision.

  2. I’m trying to figure out why it looks like a ocean going aircraft carrier in space. What is the purpose of the run way. Spacecraft don’t need runways. If that is an official rendering I have concerns.

  3. So am I missing something? How exactly does this bypass traditional rocket launches? You’ll still have to carry the satellite into orbit via a rocket even if it’s being delivered to the carrier.

  4. You and the other “smart” press morons thought President Trump’s Space Force idea was so ridiculous. Now who’s the one that’s so ridiculous???

    • Well this idea is entirely pointless anyway. Why would you want a carrier in orbit if you need to launch the rocket up there in the first place. At that point it’s just a big refueling station.

  5. I’ve seen as a child these massive craft. US navy had these ships for a long time. People, family because of fear, and threats shut people’s mouths. Cigarette craft up to five miles long. Government. Has hid it all. NASA should never be trusted. To much fear these last days.

  6. I don’t believe it one bit I’ll have to see on the News to believe it and then I will believe it and we’re is the air plans and helicopters and stuff like that that the aircraft carrier carries is going to be space planes or space helicopters I would have to see it on the news to be able to believe it just saying

  7. Star Wars nothing but Star Wars Trump’s continues the dream. But it’s not going to happen. Reagen had the same idea back in the 80s. We only have a Laser and a particle beam cannon. But deployed on Ships of the sea.

  8. Based on the Star Trek models they’re going to first have to build a space Shipyard and Space Docking facility. Such a huge undertaking wound require an international collaboration, which is seemingly unlikely given the current self inflicted damaged political reality.

  9. I laughed all the way through this. The design. Really, take an seafaring vessel and out it in space… The theory how this design would work, ha. JUST NO. I’m not sure if it’s the author who made this a joke, the editor, or the space force for feeding such information to these folks and letting them run amuck thinking this had some scientific standing. They aren’t even close to getting people in space, let alone a whole ship or base. Bah. I’m so annoyed by this article. And the graphics going with it. Seems so uninformed.

  10. Such a waste. How about finding a way to stop humanity from being stupid and spending trillions on being dominant.

    • THIS JUST IN: Congress appropriates $17.6 billion to build a ladder to reach the new, state of the art Space Aircraft(?) Carrier!🤪

If China has it then we have similar being built at/or a complete model of a lesser capabilities level.

Misleading headline. Sounds like a space bunker. We need to start thinking of actual ships for space warfare. It’s coming sooner than you think and if we aren’t on top It’s going to be really bad for everyone!

  14. Anthony Peart on

First you have to get this orbital carrier into orbit . 60 mil is not going to do it .
TheUSA is cutting the budjet for NASA and hasnt enough money for the billions that it would require to construct something like this . It sounds ike a way to divert money to friends of the government At firsg I thought this story was a April fools prank .It may as well have been one

  15. “I panic”
    Oh really!
And how soon will it be for this wonder of “space war” will be ready for active deployment?
    Dreeeam, dream, dream, dream.

  16. Scott Tracey on

Just wondering, why’s it flat? Is it so if it crashes then it can float about like a regular carrier?? I’d have thought something more resembling the death star in the first star wars film wudda been more the ticket. Anyway, I’m pretty sure I saw it years ago on Thunderbirds.

  17. Well, like it or not, we have now arrived at a tech age where you’d put more faith in China than in the U.S., on advance technology innovation.

  18. Till I see this take off into space and land back on earth I’m going to take this news with more than a pinch of salt.

  19. I guess they really wanted it to look like an aircraft carrier.

Someone explain to me why a runway of any sort would be needed in space.

  20. Jeremy Taylor on

  21. David Crockett on

Aircraft carriers in space? What are these people smoking? Sounds like whoever wrote this article flunked science in school. It’s not even good science fiction.

  22. I guess based off the illustration they’ll have men walking the deck with space suits or will have a force field going around the whole thing allowing an atmosphere on the deck… They’ll have space shuttles lifting off from the fly deck. There be a space-wiz and space-rams protecting the carrier from attack. Or, maybe they’ll have laser blasters that can destroy a country with one shot. They’ll have lifesavers in the hands of men walking around with hooded robes and will call them the Spaceal forces. I’ve heard some big lies in my life but this is most likely the biggest yet. This is either a huge scam to funnel money into a fake company and/or something to try and make the admin look good, but this will never come to fruition in my lifetime. Maybe next they’ll have spacemarines. There simply isn’t the tech to pull something like this off. What are they going to do, build it on land than fly it to space. Even assembling/building it in space is currently impossible due to the weight to launch restrictions. This would cost over a trillion dallors just in flights to get it up there. That’s not even factoring in the cost of the ship itself.

  23. At least it won’t require a major redesign. Hell, we can just launch the CVN-65 USS Enterprise directly to orbit! I mean, it’s already called the Enterprise and everything! What? This aircraft carrier displaces 95 thousand tons? No prob! We can launch this space carrier from a helicarrier! What? We don’t have helicarriers? No prob! We can build one of those first! What? Building a practical helicarrier is impossible? No prob! We’ll build an impractical one! Ok, I feel better now.

This is a joke, right? In a time where the best NASA can do is an RV-sized Apollo capsule they think they’re going to get that thing into space? With trump destroying the economy and making common good unaffordable, how are they going to build this? It will take *trillions* of dollars and technology we don’t have and can’t afford to pay for. The Chinese have a better chance of getting one into space than we do.

In an understanding, there is more life that is living at so many worlds that it is amazing. To be terse, there is species that are 3 times bigger than the human. These species are aggressive and if they get a chance to take over this planet, they will. We as a whole have to take in consideration that if we want to survive and keep in a dominant status, then we have to back up space force per se. This 3 times the height of a human is hear say, but to my understanding, they already have taken over some human worlds and are eating humans as food. This is a concern for humans in general. Launching a protective force over oir plant must be a priority. They do not know we are here. But the question is: will they or when do they. They are in this galaxy- hear say. Some humans may have tried to send out emergency broadcast. If you saw what they do, you would act differently. God creates his creation and his creation has to defend itself for survival. Amen 🙏

  31. “Aircraft” carrier? Wait till you learn there’s no air in space. TBF this is the level of discourse and false narratives I’ve come to expect from the US recently.

  32. So the gist is it would…launch satalites….somehow bypassing the need for rockets?…..so it’s an orbital factory?….that still needs all the parts , tools, materials, etc shipped up to it, and also needs it’s own fuel supplies and such to keep itself in orbit and dodge space debris….this just sounds like a bad/wasteful idea that will spiral wayyy over budget.
